Cooking Real Food for Less Money

Following on from my post about the credit crunch, I've decided to start blogging about what I've learnt over the last few months about reducing my food bills whilst still using real ingredients and producing healthy tasty meals.

Thought I would share this with you and hopefully receive back some recipes, and tips that people are creating themselves due to prices rising so drastically in the supermarkets - click on the link “Cooking Real Food for Less “ to read more.

Credit Crunch escapism

Well guys, I bet everyone is writing about the Credit Crunch and I am another one to join in. It seems inescapable to avoid – every morning you listen to the radio or the TV news and even then if you manage to avoid them, you go to work and are handed a free newspaper with headlines on the crunch. If you are lucky enough to avoid being given one or seeing headlines on someone else’s, you then go to the supermarket and what is on the big TV screens? Yeah, you got it, news on the Credit Crunch!

I think lining up in the Bank with the TV on and once again seeing news on the Credit Crunch finally made me realise there is no escape. I am not someone who hides my head in the sand; you would have to live as a hermit to not know the state of the economy, but just once in a while a bit of happy news would be welcome.

I met my girlfriends for coffee last week and once upon a time we would talk about humorous things in our lives, shared gossip or just plain silliness – it was wonderful use of our time and a bit of escapism. This time we were talking about how expensive everything had become and even got down to comparing food prices in supermarkets! After about 30 minutes of this we stopped, looked at each other and said enough! Life is hard for everyone; you can’t escape how the crunch is affecting everyone. But for our hour of catching up, we are going to continue with laughing, sharing and plain gossiping – it’s our time out. Once we all go home again then real life returns.

In these days of hardship everyone deserves a bit of escapism even if it is just for an hour!

Bad weather - really?

It is strange sometimes how quickly you can be humbled by what is happening elsewhere in the world. Guess the word strange is wrong, but will use it for now.

Here I am in London on a Sunday morning in what is supposed to be summer, yet the sky is grey and the rain is falling. All I can think about is here is another horrid day while enjoying my breakfast and then moaning to my ever patient partner about what a crap day it is. It seems to be so important to me, and then I put the news on and see that New Orleans has an evacuation order because of Hurricane Gustav and that puts things into proper perspective and my moaning instantly stops. Who am I to moan about a bad weather day? I am dry; not at risk of losing my home, or my friends and relatives or reliving a nightmare of 3 years ago that was so tragic I can’t even imagine what those people went through.

I remember the courage and the optimism of the people of New Orleans after the horrific devastation of their city last time and suddenly a wet and rainy summer Sunday in London seems such a trivial thing to moan about. Instead I will pray for the safety of people with something to really “ask why” about

Welcome to my first ever Blog

Hi everyone,

Well here goes. Yes, another virgin blogger. I have been keen to do this for ages and today I take the plunge! I am now officially posting my first ever blog. I realise along the way I may make mistakes and as I have been told that I have quite strong views and opinions I am happy to receive comments or feedback.

My interests are very eclectic and my blog no doubt will move in many directions regarding anything that catches my eye, be it news, scandal entertainment or just life in general.

Thanks for reading this; I hope you’ll come back.
